A Sweet Respite from Winter

The calendar tells us that spring has arrived, but it sure is dragging itself across the threshold. I am weary of winter and long for color, yes, even the ubiquitous, gaudy forsythia. So I offer a small respite from dreariness in the form of a bouquet of sugar flowers featuring a Gerbera daisy, hosta leaves, a few rose buds and a sprig of variegated ivy. The petals on the Gerbera have been individually wired so as to allow movement of the petals as well as stability. In other words, there's less chance of breakage. The wire used, of course, was a # 32 or 33, white so as to be barely visible in the almost paper-thin petals. Hope my little offering cheers you up a bit and hopefully I'll have something major to post soon.

Maria,

Thanks for the jolt to our winter dulled senses. Can't wait fot the real thing from my garden, although I must say, yours look better than my real thing. But thanks for the vicarious sugar fix.

Hi Rita,
I'd rather have the real thing from your garden but make due with my colorful confections for the time being. What do you think about combining gardening with sugar art? You know, creating mirror images of the flowers in my garden in sugar. I can post a picture of the real think next to its sweet imitation...Just a thought.

What lovely cakes you have; such works of art. Who would cut into them and eat them?

Maria,
Neat idea about real/sugar gardening. Only you could pull that off. hmmm. . . . is it real or is it . . . Looking forward to the challenge.

FP, cutting into one of my cakes is one of my perverse delights! But joking aside, I usually construct my cakes so that some or all of the sugar decorations can be saved. Customers have made shadow boxes in which to save the sugar pieces. I personally have had a sugar baby amaryllis on an end table in my living room for the past two years.

Rita, I don't know when, but the sugar flowers vs. the real ones are on their way. Just have to take care of a little medical problem first...
